When I was given my Win 71 by my father-in-law I did a bit of research to find out all I could about the rifle. The more I found out the fonder I became of the Model 71. One thing that got me was people insisting that the 71 only came with the one style butt pad. Bothered me because I have a Pachmayr butt pad. Everything I read indicated it had been changed and therefore detracted from the value. Since everything else was original I was let down that the butt must have been changed. Then I came across an article by Richard Hacker entitled "This Old Gun." In the article he stated that during the 50's (mine is a '53) Winchester did offer a butt pad and I believe it was a Pachmayr butt pad. Anybody know anything about this? I quoted the articles existence in my records but I have to search for the article itself.

The article by Hacker saying that you could order the Pachmayr pad on the gun new was "I have this old gun." It's been so hard to get bullets I have been considering a Corbin Bullet making system to make 348's and 375's.

1953 Winchester Model 71. I have the Lyman peep sight but prefer the Buck horns.
