Hi folks, new here and was hoping to get some feedback on this 22. It was my grandfathers (bought new) and my Dad just gave it to my son, so carrying on the tradition. I'll post some pics below. I think it's an 1890 but Dad reworked the forearm, what can i say…My grandpa did a lot of duck shooting with a gunsmith many years ago and I think that's when it got a new barrel. Not sure why this was, maybe it was shot out…? Serial number checks out with both 1890 and 1906 so not sure what to make of that. It shoots long rifle and it shoots great, spits empties on the top of your head!

From what I can see in the pictures it appears to be an 1890. The gun has been completely refinished at some point. The bbl. should have an inscription if it is a factory bbl. unless it was polished off during the refinish. Is there a proof mark on the receiver? What does the inscription on the top tang say?

I cannot find any markings whatsoever on the barrel, not sure what to make of that… Only marks I can find on the receiver is on the underside with the serial number and a capital "A" stamped underneath the numbers. The top tang has "Reg in US PAT Off." -Winchester- -Trade Mark-

I didn't see the 1890 posts and posted this under Discontinued Models. So I'll re-post here. Model 1890. 22 long, 2nd Edition.

				Hello,
I have a few of these and know enough to be dangerous.
If you wouldn't mind sharing the serial number, I'll try and help you. Use Xs on the last few numbers if you wish.
