Hello all,

first post with a question...Was given a Model 1912, sn 42xx in 16 gauge...I was reading the 1912 did not come in 16G until 1914 but the sn dates it to 1912...so any clarification on this matter?
The shotgun belonged to a family member who had it when he was a kid in the late 40s...
One day will get around to ordering a box or two of shells for it....

Thanks Shooter...no worries either way...I have had it for many years ...4ish...he said the port was opened up to take a longer shell...did not know why until I started reading up on the model 1912...not done by a smith...so ...

does the chamber have to be elongated too? I would think so, but again, I am still learning the 1912..Will have to post pics later this week...I like the shotgun and would like to start small game hunting with it...seems like a good pointer

The guns with ser # starting at 5309 were built between 1913 and 1914. the numbers from 32425 were built from 1914 on. Yours doesn't fit either.. need to do some research on this.

Update..the 12 and 16 gauge versions came out in 1913 (first listed in the 1914 catalogs) so if your number fits the 1913 group that's what it is. Also so you know, the Model 1912 was changed (shortened) in 1919 to Mod 12. I'm going to say it was built in 1912 but didn't see the street until after 1914 as cataloged.

That is correct.

Popspastime is on the money. The 4th Edition of the Red Book states that 16 & 12 gauges were added in late 1913, and as stated first listed in the catalog in 1914.

Phantom sure would like to see some photos of her if and when you can.
