I inherited a Winchester model 90-.22 short or that's what i thought anyways. I brought it into my local gun store to try and sell they looked at the barrel witch is a model 90-.22 short but when he tried looking up the serial number he said it didn't match the model 90 serial number. The serial number is 330489 B. I tried looking it up on the Winchester site but wasent able to find anything.I am also looking to find out approx how much this is worth. The man at the shop said it was in the 60% range so its in kinda rough shape. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Also let me know if theres any info I have forgotten to put up. Thanks!!

He said at some point someone put a model 90 barrel on it and the serial number wasent that of a model 90 maybe he didnt know what he was talking about im very unfamiliar with guns in general so i dont know if its even possible to interchange barrels like that.

It sounds to me like he doesn't know what he is talking about. That serial no. is in the range for m90s.

That sure looks like a 1890 22 cal. The barrel, the stock, the receiver, even the front sight. I think he is mistaken about your rifle. You would be surprised at the value of one of those. Mine has a serial of 41084. Depending on condition they could be valued anywhere from 1500.00 to 15000.00.

If I can throw my 2 cents in here, I would say that the guy at the gun shop was "spot on" when he said the barrel didn't match the serial number. What they probably said was that because the serial number on the receiver had the letter "B" beneath the number, that it was a receiver that was actually from a model 1906 not a model 90. The letter "B" was added to the receiver on the model 1906 sometime in 1908 to differentiate it from the 1890 receiver. When the model 1906 rifle first came out, it had no letter with the serial number and was in 22 short only. When they changed the model 1906 receiver in 1908 to accept the S, L, and LR, they added the letter "B". The picture you posted isn't clear at all. From what I can tell, you have a model 1906 receiver (B) with a model 1890 barrel and 1890 butt stock. The plain slide handle is definitely from a model 1906. The 1890 had the fluted handle. The tubular feed looks like it's from a 1890 but it's hard to see. The rear sight doesn't appear to me to be the correct 30B but again it's hard to see. Your gun may look more like a 1890 than a 1906 but it is in fact NOW a 1906. They go by the serial number. By the way, if you look up serial numbers for the model 1906, it shows your receiver was made in July / August 1912. Your gun may well cycle the S, L, & LR. The receiver certainly should. If the barrel will accept the LR, you should be good to go. You might want to look into that a bit more, but I don't see why it shouldn't. The slot in the tubular feed may only accept shorts unless it to is from a 1906. If it shoots well, keep it. As far as collector value, not much, it's in fair condition at best. It's really a severely altered model 1906 with 1890 parts. I would think if you were offered $300, you should grab it. Hope that helps.
