Howdy Folks,
I picked one up yesterday and shot a few .38's in it last nite at dark.. Cycles them well.. Very nicely made rifle.. Reeks of quality.. More later.....

Excellent! I'm desperately trying to find an opening in my schedule to shoot mine. I have lots of .38/.357 that I loaded a couple of years ago waiting to be fired.

Amazing days at the local range over the holiday weekend (had most of the range to myself on consecutive days since it seemed that a lot of people traveled out of town for 4th of July holiday). Put about 50 rounds through the '73, while my wife put about 150 through the '94 (hence why I purchased the '73 since I rarely got to shoot the '94). Quick pic before I put them back in the safe.

I have to say that it's all the positives mentioned the reviews and impressions from the Shot Show and after (which is what convinced me to order one). It's a lot nicer than I expected (fit and finish)...no regrets on ordering it. I'm looking forward to putting more rounds through it and the action smoothing out like my past lever actions (never felt the need to 'smith or modify my lever actions to smooth out the action).

New here and just a week ago purchased a brand new 1873 S/R in .357 /.38 .
I know it's Japanese but it sure doesn't feel like it........smooth as silk and as nice as they make them.
I'm 50 and have wanted a '73 since I was a kid......this one's not an octo-barrel, but I still love it !

Taking it to the range in a cpl days to make sure it shoots straight.......i'll only be burning .357 thru it, and getting a Marbles tang-sight for it.

I want one of the 73's a lot. I sure wish they would make some in 38/40.

Spent some real "quality time" with it at the range today and just couldn't find any flaw with it at all !!

was using Federal 158g .357 JSP ammo as that's all that was available when I purchased.

with the open Buckhorn & Gold Dot sights, after 1 tap to the rear sight to correct it shooting to the right, at 25 yds it consistently put 3 rds into 1 ragged hole at dead bullseye using only a sandbag rest.
50 yards was 1 click up the rear ladder, and it was bullseying almost every round, occasionally w/2 holes touching in groups of 3.
that's as far as I went as I haven't put a tang-sight on it yet.
absolutely fantastic accuracy for handgun ammo !!!

it functioned smoothly and flawlessly throughout and I couldn't be happier with it.

Thanks! From what I read, they followed the prints, with a safety addition and a tweak to the block to eject more out than up. I must say, this is one of the easiest shouldering, aiming, and smoothest actions I've felt out of the box. No plans to do anything to it, as the honeymoon's still on. Don't try to cycle short 38's!
Maybe a sling? I saw a website that had some really nice ones, maybe over on the Henry site? I'll dig it up. Very well made.

broke down and started shooting some .38 and .38+P thru mine just to see what happened.........and out at 50 yards it groups better with SuperX .38 Spl. FMJ than with any of the 3 or 4 types of .357 i've shot through it.
I was surprised, but the lower pressure loads seem to do it just right.

i'll be getting a reloading setup soon to roll some ideal lead .38s for it.

no cycling problems w/.38s in mine.....

I have been looking for a new 1873 and looked at the Winchester and Uberti rifles. I prefer the case hardened receiver, etc., I will be buying this in a .357 Magnum caliber. Probably a short rifle.

Back looking again at a 1873 Short rifle in case hardened edition in .357 magnum. Also I have checked out the Uberti. Now to find out what dealers are selling them for compared to the MRSP of almost $1,600.

I did place my order for the 1873 Winchester Short Rifle today with Kittery Trading Post in Maine. No idea when the rifle will come in. They have had these on order for some time. Looks like just what I want.
