Purist's Question...Case Hardened? Or Not??

Wanting to know which of the current 73s would be truer in appearance to the original.

The case hardened one, or the plain black receiver?

My guess is that the barrel length was likely 24". (Although I will probably end up with the short rifle)

Color case hardening was not standard on the model 1873 sporting rifle but was standard on the fancy special order rifle.
