Help with Rust

HELP HELP HELP,
I thought I was doing the right thing by keeping my rifles in gun socks in the safe. But after getting them out yesterday t3 of them had the gun sock stuck to the buttplates and rusted something terrible. It was my Model 63, Trapdoor Springfield, and 30-40 Krag. No other part of the rifles were rusted. I had them in that safe before with no sock and never got any rust.
My first question is how do I getr the rust off. Or do I get new buttplates. The rust on the Krag is bad.
Was keeping them in the socks bad? I thought the socks were treated. Should I have sprayed the socks with something.
I also put a rubber mat in the bottom of the gun safe in case there was something on the carpet.
Any help would really be great. thanks.
