I bought a custom model 70 serial number 41,754 from gunrunners auction and it looks like it has not been shot since a total makeover. It has a new barrel without a manufacturers name or a caliber marking, when i feed it quickly without firing (i am not ready to shoot it yet) the necks are dented when ejected. Is it because the bullets are seated out too far, a follower, magazine or spring (the spring in the magazine is a wire type) problem. I am trying new Hornady 45gr SP Match and hope i didn't buy someone elses problem.

Thanks

Yes...I see.

I would fire it with just two cartridges...and see what happens to the fired cases.

Also try another brand of ammo...

Let us know.

I would definitely get that chamber size checked out and verified by a gunsmith before thinking about pulling the trigger. There shouldn't be room in a chamber the right size for a dent to be formed outward like that. The cases need to fit the chamber properly or you risk blowing them out. I noticed you mentioned that the rifle was modified and there are no barrel markings, so probably better to have it checked than lose your eyesight.

You don't say whether the bolt closes on or ejects the round with noticeable effort . Is your over all length OK and your case length OK? Further I certainly would consult a gun smith.

We need more info on tour receiver is it push feed or controlled round feed
We need to isolate the problem to do so drop a undamaged case down the chamber then close the bolt does the problem still exist when you eject the live round
