I was out yesterday as well. My son in law,my lab and I went pheasant hunting. We got lucky and I got two with my model 42 Winchester.

Congrats on the good hunt,Bob.What were you using to feed your Model 42 with?

Used a Model 42 back in the mid 80s for two years.Then went back to the 28 gauge.Sold the Model 42 I had at that time.A few years ago I purchased another Model 42 in great shape.Too nice to use in the field much, like I did with the Model 42 I had before though.

Out yesterday for a short hunt.Checked out two spots,but no rabbits or partridge to be seen.

Maybe the animals are getting to know me too well,RR.See me coming and head to the high country.LOL

That was a great hunt bob. Some family and a lab. The lab is probably family too.

28 ga., I feed it 3" #6 Winchester and it seems to work.
Redryder, the lab is indeed part of the family, he was a present from my daughter,son and son in law. I was flown back to the Oak Grove area Blackman Lake actually to work with the dog before bringing him home.

That's what I used it my Model 42 Winchester,when I was using it back in the mid 1980s.

Out this late afternoon for a short hunt.not a good day for hunting,because of l the snow on the ground and trees and because of the high wind.Got nothing but cold hands and cold feet.LOL

Out yesterday for short afternoon hunt.Saw a few rabbits tracks and cut two partridge walks in one spot I was in,but saw none of either.Did see one porcupine and that was all.

Keep after them, sooner or later your turn will come.

Out a few days ago.Took the 28 gauge Model 101 out to try to change my luck.No help.Have not been out since ,as my back is acting up again.

Hope it mends up ,so I can get out,at least for a bit.

Sunny today,but cold and windy.Temperature of -10 C,not counting the wind chill.

Out for a short hunt this afternoon.Took the old 28 gauge Winchester/Cooey Model 84.Best day I have had so far this season,not that it was great,but was able to bagged a rabbit and saw another one.

What the heck 28 gauge. Good point and shoot training. The big hair is next.

28 gauge, you still have the rest of the year to get the Partridge and that other pesky wabbit!

Redryder, I don't know where in La. you live but the Oak Grove Blackman Lake I mentioned is in central La. This was my second time in your State and a completely different country side. First time was at Fort Polk in the pines. I actually enjoyed both "visits".

The partridge (ruffed grouse) season ended at the end of December.Skunked this year.

On about Dec.27 I hurt my left ankle,knee and the area in between them.Also the left foot is a bit swollen.Doctor says I could be 3 to 6 weeks before recovery.So it looks like I am out of the woods for awhile.

Too bad ,as we have had some nice days to have been out here of late.

Sorry to hear that, no way too start the year. Take care of that ankle .

Thanks for that,Bob.Does not seem to be healing much.Pain keeps waking me up at night,so I do not sleep well.Another Doctor appointment on Monday.

Well that hurt ankle, turned out to be a torn tendon and a chip broken out of my ankle.Did not get out hunting any more last season.

Been out on a few partridge (ruffed grouse) hunts this fall,2019 season.So far I have not even scared one bird,let alone have a shot at one.

Really sorry to hear about that left leg issue, good to hear it is in the past now.

Had the Winchester Model 23 ,28 gauge out for the last two afternoons for a partridge(ruffed grouse) hunt.No luck.In fact did not even scare one.

You could be right,Bob.The rabbit (snowshoe hare)season opened here today.Was able get out for a short hunt this afternoon.Was able to bag a rabbit with the Winchester Model 23.No sign of a partridge.

The only two partridge I have bagged this season with taken with the Winchester Model 42 .410.

Out this afternoon with the Winchester Model 23 in 28 gauge.Never saw a sign of a partridge or rabbit.

You are most persistent! I never cared for fishing because I expected immediate result.

Know what you mean about fishing ,RR.At least out rabbit or partridge hunting you can move around and see different places.Either by vehicle ,travling from one spot to another or just by walking around in one area.
