Got a chance to get my rifles out after switching scopes surround. I have the VX2 2-7 on the compact featherweight 20" barrel 7mm-08 and a Vortex Viper 2.5-10 on my 24" sporter 30-06. Both M70 made at FN in SC.

This is the 30-06 in McMillan Hunter stock.

Grouping is consistent when moving the group right with standard Federal 140 gr 7mm-08.

7mm-08 is the left target. Distance is 100 yards

I stopped with the adjustments here and will see what she does with follow up range sessions. I did much better than last year. My form is more consistent.

Sent 2 rounds down to the 200 yard plates. Hit this on second shot.

The 30-06 is in a McMillan stock and bedded. It was super consistent. I think the scope has some slight parallax issues. Not sure I want to keep it. May invest in a VX3 3.5-10 power for this rifle.

Still the grouping is good to me. Best I can get with a couple of blankets and a bean bag sock for the rear.

I'll see where she hits next range session and go from there. I bumped it over one click to the right after this group.

The first round sent down at 200 yards sent this plate crashing to the dirt.

All in all my consistency is much better.
The 30-06 likes the 150 grains so I'll be grabbing some more ammo for both rifles.

The wood stocked rifle is more sleek feeling but the McMillan stock I don't have to worry about at all so I think I may prefer to drag that one around in terrain that is tougher to get through than the wood stock.

Yes I agree the McMillan would be the better pick for rough terrain. The wood stocked one is sure a nice looking rifle though.

How do you like the 7mm-o8?

I love the 7mm-08!!! Almost the same drop as my. 30-06 and less recoil and smaller size.

I have heard good things about the 7mm-08.Fired one that a friend of mine had at the range one day.

I have a pre 64 Model 70 in .30-06.How do you find the quality of the new SC made Model 70's ?

There are two posts on the site about the quality of the JOC Model 70.One is titled ,"My JOC Saga" and the other is ,"Jack O Connor Tribuire Rifle Very Disappointing".Fit and finish seem to be the main problem.Other reports on the rifle I have heard have been good.Perhaps a few were able to slip by QC unnoticed.

Your rifles seem to work well with no fit or finish complaints.

Mine are great. I bought my 24" 30-06 with a cheap plastic stock I never even shot it in.
