I just purchased an SXP Extreme Defender and plan to use 3" shells in it. The brochure says the Mag holds 5 rounds but I can only get 4 in it. Are they counting a shell in the chamber or do I need to remove the plug from the mag to get 5 rounds in it?

Yea...I would remove the plug.

It is rated for 3" shells...correct !?

Yes it is rated for 2 3/4 and 3" shells. I am going to check to see if there is a plug installed but I didn't want to take it apart if there is no plug in it from the factory.
