What are you using for a Hammer spur?
I have a Low Wall in 22 Hornet with a scope and the hammer is difficult to get my thumb on

I have heard (my 1885 is "in jail" for the week) that a spur will not work on these, as the hammer sinks fully into the action when cocking.

So I got to visit mine in jail yesterday, and sure enough when you fully open the lever, the hammer FULLY retracts into the action.

I have the 22LR.

Can you show us a pic of yours with the lever all the way down? (action wide open)

Your shot of the hammer cocked looks just like mine in that state, but with the lever down.....

How do you load a round if the hammer stays "up?"

Who makes that scope mount?

I ordered it from Talley, who I believe manufacture it for Winchester. It needs Talley rings, too.

Not cheap, but then neither was the rifle.

Part numbers and prices from my invoice are:
Product Qty Unit price
Winchester 1885 (Low Wall) 252885 1 100.00
1” Fixed Ring (High) (Gloss) G100005 1 75.95

Just don't show those numbers to my wife... :)

Beautiful rifle Sail. Quality demands a little more upfront. You can enjoy now and pass on up your lineage as a prized possession for generations to come.

Thanks, Red. Yup - quality is usually worth paying for. "Why spoil the ship for a ha'p'orth* of tar?"

This morning I looked at both of my low walls. One in 22lr the other in 22 Horner.
Sir, you are correct!
Photo proof, I used my 22lr as it is more photogenic

Sheez! The hammer dropped into the rabbit hole. My first to see. Very pretty receiver scene and color.

Dang! Now THAT's purty.

Mine's just kind of a shiny black smooth one. :)

Would you believe.... Rifle looked new 2 years ago when I purchased it at Gander Mountain no box but priced at $649.00 in Reynoldsburg OH

Superb - and at that price I am extremely green-eyed. :)

Nice to know an occasional bargain rolls around, though
