Reviewing the 1886? Are you talking about the recent Miroku guns? I have been an 1886 collector for several decades and actually bought a few of the ELs to play with. One of mine now resembles the original, complete with hammer, trigger and spring, and correct roll die markings. It also now has a full length magazine. No ridiculous tang safety or rebounding hammer nonsense.

Nice rifle!
Were the round barrels offered from the start, or introduced later on?

Both round and octagon barrels were available and considered "standard"from the beginning of 1886 manufacture on 31 Aug 1886. Octagonal barrels were far more popular than round, with twice the number of rifles made with that design. Out of the approximately 140,000 1886s whose serial numbers and factory information is available today 45,693 had round barrels and 91,862 were octagon.

Very nice rifle Old86. I have one the 2012 Miroku made 1886 with the full length mag and 24" barrel. It's a great rifle and I love shooting it.
