Can you swap a 1892 44-40 for 45 Colt barrel?

I have a modern 1892 (USRAC) in 44-40 and want to shoot 45 Colt. Is a
barrel swap possible--and would any other parts need replaced?

Although I have met a lot of people who believe the .45 colt was the parent case for the .44-40, they are dimensionally different in every way. Some of the dimensions are close enough that I don't think you would know just how much modification would be needed until a competent gunsmith took specific measurements of your individual rifle. It can be done, but it's not as simple as a barrel swap.
