Heading out for closing weekend with mine this weekend... Hope I don't end up with tag soup this year! It would be the first time in quite a few years I ended the season empty handed....

Nope... tag soup for me this year. First time I have gotten skunked in abut 8 years or so. Oh well, guess I can't complain, it was a pretty good run.

Now I have time to get some work done around the house, make some ammo, and maybe get some more shooting time in before real snow sets in here in northern NY.

The new JBA 375 brass seems just fine. My first trial run with the brass and 220gr Vollmers didn't net good enough accuracy for me, but I don't think it's an issue with the brass. My gut tells me a need to push the bullets a little faster based on past experience making ammo for this rifle with other bullet weights. Now that deer season is over, I'll be hitting the loading bench and making more ammo recipes to test.

Yesterday I mounted a new Nikon 2-7 scope on my .30 WCF 94AE. Today I loaded up 50 rounds with 160 Gr. RNFP-GC from Matt's Bullets over 24 grains of Hogdon 4198. I hope to go to the Range on Monday.

I think I have a problem described in another thread that I read: The poi walks fairly dramatically as the barrel heats. I had the rifle Cherakoted and I think the slightly larger diameters have resulted in binding of the magazine tube and barrel. I will work on that after Christmas and let you know the results.

I reconsidered the timing. I did it yesterday and it went very well. I honed out front band and blued it to prevent corrosion. Now the magazine tube moves freely, but is not loose, inside the bands. Unfortunately, I doubt that I can shoot it until next year.

Well, I took my 94AE to the range last Thursday and can report that the old beast is finally shooting like it ought to and, according to my son, did before.

I have had a couple of problems to overcome, but they were unanticipated consequences of a CereKote application. It was kind of fun to figure them out and fix them. As of now I have a unique 94AE that gives me a 2" group at 100 yards. Mind you my eyes are not good and I think the rifle is capable of better than my shooting. I got a 2" five shot group when shooting as rapidly as I could acquire and shoot. No change in the poi as the barrel heated up.

I always liked the .32 Special. I enjoy the handloading too, more so in the winter. Enjoy your trip to the range.

I took my '75 vintage 30-30 to the range yesterday. Shot Winchester power point 150 gr. and 170 gr. to compare group size. The 150s seem to group better for me. Gave it a good cleaning and put it back in the safe.
