Shooter13: is it really marked 30WCF? I am unaware of any in that late production marked any way but 30-30 Winchester. Could you put up a picture of the markings on the barrel?
Thanks

MMCSRET...

Never claimed the barrel was marked .30WCF...I used it in my original post in the historical context as that was the original Winchester designation for their cartridge.

History...

Although the original name used by Winchester on their firearms and ammunition was .30 WCF, the designation .30-30 was used by both Marlin and Union Metallic Cartridge Co., who did not want to put the name of rival Winchester on their products. The added -30 stands for the standard load of 30 grains (1.9 g) of early smokeless powder, which was on par with current IMR/DuPont's 4064. Over time Marlin's variation on the name stuck, though ".30 WCF" is also used even today.

When I bought this firearm off a friend...I also received two other brand new barrels...(both marked 30-30 Win) in their original shipping packaging from the rifles original owner...a hunter in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Top ejection of the fired cartridge was replaced by angular ejection in the early 1980s.

OK, I understand, thanks for keeping me up to date. My 1936 Savage 99 is marked 30-30, they didn't want the word Winchester on a Savage gun, proprietary pride. I understand it well.
