Greetings. My first post here and I am looking for help. I have what appears to be a 1894 Winchester with a serial # that places it as being made in 1939. The barrel is 20 inches and it has a hooded front sight. What I can't tell is if it ever had a saddle ring or not. Did they make a non-saddle ring carbine in 1939?
Also if you can guess (I know it all depends on the condition) as to the value. I wish I could say this was a family heirloom but I bought this and a Remington 121 a few years ago for $275. I know (pretty sure at least) that I got a great deal. Just not sure how great of a deal.
Thank,
Sincerely,
Chris

Hello Chris, welcome to the forum. Considering the hood sight I believe this is not a SRC. However, I am not a Winchester historian.
You got a good deal. Perhaps this link will add some information: http://homesteadfirearms.com/appraisals ... ations.htm GOA Life Member

Thank you for the reply. My guess/hope is that it used to have a saddle ring and somebody removed it.

If a saddle ring was removed, shouldn't there be a tapped hole above the hammer pin? The receiver seems rather large for a SRC. Just thinking......
