Took a break from bow hunting in NYs southern zone and went north where rifle season is open. Went old school with my wool pants, plaid coat, and 30-30. Didn't see any deer but had a nice day in the woods with my 94.

That was nice. A successful hunt is a nice safe day in the wild. Taking game is gratuitous. You were dressed for the occasion sir.

Sounds like a good day in the woods, trucker. I took my .25-35 out and shot a few older cartridges to enjoy the rifle and make room for my own powder/bullet combination.

Shooting just for fun is another nice day. Have not launched a round in several months. First problem was too hot and humid this summer. Guns would sweat when taken from indoor cooling to outdoor heating. Then the rain and storms moved in.

Just resurrected my 1953 built 30-30 win. It's been in back of closet since 1974, except for an occasional clean & lube. Took it to the range today. WOW! Forgot how much fun it is. Put 30 rounds through it. That's all the ammo I had on hand. Gonna take it again next week. LOVE IT!

That 30 rounds should be 60 rounds. 3 boxes. |

I took my '94 hunting today. On the way to my stand I spotted a deer watching me from behind a tree. All I could see was half of the face, an ear, and one shoulder. I took a slow side step to get a better angle and reach a tree to lean against, aimed at the shoulder and shot. The deer went about 30 yards and dropped. I paced it off, it was a 60 yard shot thru a slot in the trees with open sights and 64 year old eyes. It was a small deer, but I was happy with my shot and the performance of the gun and round.

Ryder, I check in from time to time, and look for new posts. Haven't been on the computer much now that the weather is finally warming up. Did take my '94 and its safe mates out for a quick check and wipe down the other day.

I'm dealing with yard work now. We have experienced record rain this year.
Will have time early May for fondling and cleaning my firearms. GOA Life Member

The '94 accounted for another deer earlier this month. I took it out of the safe today and cleaned it, having neglected to do so in my excitement that day.

Took my 94 to the range today. Tried 150 grain deer season XPs. Wanted to see if they shoot the same as the power points I'm sighted in for. They printed about 4 inches high at 50 yards, 6 inches at 100. Since I have several boxes of power points on hand I think use them up before making any changes.

Wow, nobody else has posted on this thread. I took my 94 on our family thanksgiving hunt yesterday, and harvested a nice doe. 1 shot kill 80 yards offhand. Love my 94 with Williams receiver sight.

Took the 94 out yesterday on last day of rifle season. was blessed with opportunity to harvest another deer. The 30-30 did the trick again.

Well, here we go again! I went hunting Sunday the 12th, last day of regular rifle season in New York's southern zone. I took my 94 in .30-30. I was blessed again with the opportunity to harvest a deer. I shot a nice 7 point buck.
