How's it going Randy! I was pleased to see you kicking around in here with your old Winchesters.. Apparently ATC enthusiasts also share good taste in firearms. :)

38-55 brass remains a backup plan for me. I have seen alot of mixed opinions on whether Starline 38-55 brass can be safely loaded to 357 pressures. One such example a member on another shooting forum brought to our attention is the Buffalo Bore factory 38-55 Heavy loads. https://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l ... tail&p=159 (See the in depth write up below the description..interesting)

Another option that is looking pretty good is a small company that resizes virgin 30-30 brass to 375 specs. They do not fire form it, they do it with dies I suppose. I see quite a few positive reviews made by customer on that page who state they are running them right up to 375 pressure with no issues... When I get low on my 375 brass, I will probably give those a try if the 375 brass persists in being scarce and spendy... I would work up in stages of course.

Anyhow, I really like the 375 Winchester cartridge and the potential it brings to the table for the m94. Actually, I find all of the Big Bore cartridges to be very interesting and desirable....Just ahead of their time by about 20 years it would seem... It's really unfortunate they didn't gain in popularity as hoped :(

:D We Do...........I did some looking for the 375 brass.......... Zero.....I had both the .375 and the .444 Big Bore '94s Great rifles and the Bear Hunters wanted them !!!....... People need to get a Shell maker to do a run of the .375 Brass!!! Like the 32-40 brass they are saying a reform from 30-30 brass! I had bought bags of winchester new brass 25 years ago and was looking tonight and still had 30 some New 32-40
a 100 new 22 hornet and a bag of 44-40 winchester ..also 3 bags of the 25-35 brass all winchester head stamp !.......Time sure flyes........My 38-55 brass is still doing
good! I have about 400 total that I shoot from No hot loads! About a 100 in 3fff for the Buffalo Match!!!

Good stuff... The Big Bore cartridges don't have a huge number of followers, but the ones they have are pretty staunch about them.

I know a bunch of people who emailed Starline Brass (myself included) asking them if they would consider making 375 Win brass since they are doing 2 different sizes of 38-55 brass already.. We all got the same reply and that was that they intend to begin making 375 Win brass in the not too distant future. But the exact timeframe is unclear as they are very busy filling orders for what they already currently make. Still crossing my fingers on that one.. :)

And I wouldn't run hot loads in a vintage 38-55 chambered lever rifle either.

Looking good Randy!

I received my Marble green fiber optic replacement front sight the other day and installed it on my Big Bore 94 today. I have begun struggling with open sights these last few years and this seemed like a logical first step for me. Scoping my 94 is not an option I have bolt rifles with scope and I just can't get on board with a scope on a lever rifle. Anyway, installation was a breeze and the improvement on my sight picture cannot be overstated! The added plus is that the Marble sight looks like it actually belongs on the barrel of the 94 unlike some other brands I have seen that look kind of clunky and out of place. If you want to improve your sight picture and don't want to detract from the original looks of your Winchester too much I would strongly recommend a Marble fiber optic sight. :)

Good deal. Glad your sight picture improved.

The Marble is at home on a Winchester. They have been around since 1892.

My 1951 JC Higgins model 28, my first gun, is the only firearm scoped. This early lady is still accurate to .5" at 100 yards. Was my squirrel gitter while growing up on a small farm.

Well, the last day of my deer season here in northern zone NY is the first sunday in December. So far I have been getting skunked this year, even have a doe tag to fill! But the rut is in full swing and they are moving.. Hoping my 94BB 375 gets its first kill this weekend! :)

Well Randy, in NY setting up a salt lick or any other type of bait is illegal. I know alot of other states allow a hunter to sit on bait but unfortunately we can't do it here...

Yesterday I did get some range time with my BB94 to try out the new Marble Arms fiber optic front sight and new JBA brass with Vollmer 220gr bullets. I did have to re-zero with the .022" taller front sight, no problem though as I suspected due to the fact I was set all the way down on the lowest notch with my rear ramp. Sight picture improvement was huge for me!

On to the new Vollmer 220gr bullets: Well, unfortunately the load I tried didn't shoot all that well. It was grouping an unpredictable 4-6 inches at 50yds from a good rest using a bench with sandbags. I need to cook up a different recipe, and suspect I need to drive them a little harder. I stopped .5gr below max published for that bullet. I found that with the 250gr Hawks I have been using, they like to be pushed by a max charge for best accuracy. And while .5gr doesn't sound like much, with this particular cartridge and powders listed as desirable for it there is only about a 3gr swing between listed starting charge and max. If it doesn't tighten up it's grouping with a little more charge weight, I think I'll start looking at different powders, particularly AA1680. I see alot of people getting great performance using the 1680 with 375 Win chambered rifles. I'm not totally convinced I will need to change powder though as I have gotten 1.5" groups using H4198 and the 250gr Hawk bullets. And for me with open sights I find group sizes like that to be more than acceptable. :)

So, to be continued but I will be finishing out my hunting season using the Hawk bullets first. I LOVE carrying that 94 in the woods, so handy!
