A friend just bought a model 70 chambered in the 22-3000. This Winchester was produced in the 30's and has a thin long tube type scope with external adjustments. It is in nice shape. Is it possible that this rifle came from the factory in the 22-3000?

I certainly would not discount the possibility but I have never seen that chambering listed for the Model 70.

The 22-3000 cartridge was developed by Harvey Lovell about 1934., while its not a standard chambering for the model 70, it could certainly have been a special order and is definately a "rare bird". Might be one of very few model 70's ever chambered in that caliber. Can you get a pic of the barrel markings?
