I have a model 70 30/06 purchased around 1970. I has a floating barrel and when I try to sight it in, after the 2nd or 3rd shot, when the barrel heats up, the shot pattern starts to wander. I was wondering if anyone else has experience this and what is causing it?

Howdy RJ, can't help with the question. There are several 70 owners here.

This might be a tad late but... varying ammo might not shoot as well from one rifle to the next. I have a current production model 70 30-06 that'll shoot 165grn Federal Fusions under an inch all day.

I have a new FWT and my son-in-law has a new standard weight, both in 243. After the barrel heats up, about 5 shots for him and 3 shots for me the impact starts to wander. Let the barrel cool between shots and zero that way. You didn't say how much point of impact was shifting but unless you are shooting in a rifle match where you shoot a lot of rounds in a very short time it won't matter if impact shifts a little.
