I ordered a Model 70 Extreme Weather Rifle. Have not got this one yet. My plans are to get it set up with an exhibition Tiger Maple Stock and have the Bell and Carlson stock as a backup. It is a really good rifle. All Model 70s I have shot are amazingly accurate. Went to the new Gander Outdoors. The only Winchester Model 70s they had were Featherweights in Walnut stocks. But all three were beautiful rifles. My next one though will again have Stainless barrel and action. Not that the blued rifles are not OK in harsh weather, because properly oiled down and stored after rain and snow they are totally fine, including scope settings, etc. in my experience. I just like a few more in SS.

You are right on with Tiger Maple and Bell and Carlson. Tiger and Burl are my favorite patterns. I don't hunt, so synthetics are not in my inventory.

Happy shooting is a large plus in gun ownership. I don't shoot anymore. Just cuddle and maintain.

I was an avid hunter as a kid and into my teens. Lost interest in my twenties and on to senior.

All my deer photos are too large resolution to be posted. Actually I have even downsized a number, still won’t accept them. The Winchester Model 70 EW is on hold with me, looking forward to my new Shot Show Special Model 70 Dark Maple Stainless Featherweight. Had to order it in .243 as 6.5 is not available, and .308 is not going to work for me. It is a good caliber though and is the most popular fir this special model for order volume. Still looking for a Model 70 Ultimate Shadow SS in .243 for a exhibition Tiger Maple Stock. I own one in that model variant but with a Boyd Black Laminate Stock and it is a tack driver and handles any weather I have tested it in! Though loaded with ammo, sling on, etc., 9.4 pounds!

Good to see you active again.

I prefer heaver guns. Hand and shoulder. They don't bounce around so much. And to me, recoil is more manageable. I grunted a Garand M1 nine-pounder for thirteen-months in Korea. Weight was an advantage for managing the point-aim-shot. Colt's 1911 was my backup carry. Another heavy weight for size.
