Question from a Forum Newbie.

I hope this is the correct place to post this. If not I hope one of the moderators will move it to the correct spot.

I just purchased a Winchester Model 1890 chambered for .22 shorts. According to the Serial Number the gun was build in 1919. In my research on line I'm finding a lot of conflicting opinions regarding the use of a modern, high velocity, .22 short round. Some folks say not to use that round others say it's not a problem. I know I fire modern .22 Long Rifles in my Model 1897 Marlin Lever Action .22 with no problem so I'm a bit confused.

You guys obviously know more about Winchester in general, and the Model 1890 .22 specifically, than I do so I thought I'd check in with you all. Any information will be appreciated!

Thanks,
Bob

Ohhh 1890s 1906s one of my favorites
The 22 shorts and shorts only can safely be fired through that gun if it's in good working order
Pictures would be great would love to see it

Mr. 70,

yes, I understand my gun will only fire .22 short rounds. my question was related to the type of .22 short rounds. i was wondering if it was ok to use modern, high velocity short rounds or if I should stick with standard velocity and sub sonic .22 short rounds.

Thanks!

Gosh Bob that is a beauty!

Dont refinish or anything other than cleaning. Great original patina. No worries about any modern short ammo..it will handle them

Thanks!

no plans to do anything more than shoot, clean and enjoy. it's a fun gun to shoot. so quiet with the shorts that at first i was concerned it wasn't evening firing. had to shoot a can about 10 ft away to even be sure it was working.
