The quinessential blade from your childhood...a Buck Knife. How many here started their collections with this staple from the past...and how many will hand down an heirloom from their father to their son or daughter...the first knife in many a young persons hands.

This Buck was given to me by my Father on my 10th Birthday...the first of many fine edged weapons in my collection...

Here's another Buck knife that I purchased while on TDY ( Travel Duty ) for the DoD in San Diego, California. I would always pick up a pocket knife and a Zippo lighter from each destination I visited...

The first knife I ever purchased was a folding hunter a classmate bought on a Thursday and wanted to sell for drinkin money on Friday. I gave him $ 10.00 for it (about 1973) It has skinned every deer I've ever taken and been on countless hunting and fishing adventures. I think I made a good purchase...

I did not start a collection with the Buck 110 but I did get one when in the Corps in the late 70s. It was a dandy tool but I soon changed over to a SAK Soldier because they are lighter and have more uses than just cutting. That started my SAK collecting.

I noticed you have some green corrosion on the brass of your 110 there. I also have a problem getting green corrosion on the brass of my 110 when it is in the leather pouch; is that pretty common problem with them?

Yes...because when stored too long in the leather pouch, the tanning acids from the leather leech onto the brass.

It can be cleaned up with some Flitz...

Ah thanks, good to know. I was thinking that it may have been because I had it on me when it was drizzling one day, and that maybe the moisture absorbed in to the leather and started a process I would need to neutralize. What about something like Brasso, would that work as well?

Actually my first folder was an oldtimer, that I inherited form my grandpa. First fixed blade was a Normark which I still use as a back up. My pride and joy however is the Buck 105 Pathfinder. Love it. I know there is better steel out there but I love bucks 420hc. Easy to sharpen and holds an edge well (for me anyways).
