What is the reasoning behind posting serial # on the internet with xxxx
EXAMPLE 12345XXXX
Is it out of fear someones going to claim that to be their firearm :?:

Most people are leary about posting the full serial number of their firearm just like some people don't like their land line phone number published in a public phone book...some consider it paranoid, while others consider it prudent...some even go to the trouble of blacking the # out in photos. If a person wants to know what generation a Colt SAA is or want to know what year their firearm was manufactured, usually the first three serial numbers are all that is required to determine the year. Gun magazines like Guns&Ammo don't bother to blot the # out...personal preference is what I think.
