They were in Binghamton, New York. There were two stores after awhile. One downtown Binghamton near Court Street and one farther out I think heading out towards Pa. The salesman I bought my Beretta Silver Snipe 20 gauge over and under, and My Remington Model 700 .222 Remingon (which Jack O'Connor shot with and declared it "A Tack Driver!") was named Tony. A very tall AmerAsian. He was absolutely a great salesman and a very wonderful fellow. I still have them both and they are with me for my lifetime. I do have a B&W photo that I did NOT take of the original Dick's Store and the owners.
The stock on the Remington ADL (the plain model with press checkering) came through in a very figured wood. I have never refinished it and never will myself. It now has a Nikon Buck Master Scope 3x9 which I finally replaced from the original 3x9 Tasco. The Tasco scope when you zoomed to 9X the cross Hairs got really fat! It has never been gunsmithed again after old Carl Wakefield in Chenago Forks set it up for me and he bore sighted it and then actually sighted it in on his own rifle range. I used to shoot woodchucks with it routinely out to 500 yards. So did my girl friend who was the prettiest girl in the school and later became my wife. It is one of the most accurate 225 yard rifles in the world. At 400 yards and a wind I have other Model 700s and Model 70s that will outperform it due to wind drift. |
