Hello all from Colorado.

To be honest I registered because I'm doing some research on an old Winchester for a friend.

Today the Pastor of our church came over and asked me what I knew about an old rifle he had inherited. I guess since I'm retired LE he though I'd know since it's a gun. I've had that reaction more than a few time over the past 40 years.

Not knowing much about old Winchesters I figured I'd come to you experts.

The rifle says Winchester model 1894. The caliber says 30 W.C.F. and the serial number is 613770. It's in pretty good shape for an old rifle. Not much left of the blueing but I don't see any rust. The front and rear wood stocks look to be in good shape and I don't see any cracks or gouges. I took some photos with my iPad if someone would like me to email them.

Anyway, if anyone could give me some information on this rifle and an approximate value we sure would appreciate it. Thanks in advance. ChiefBDT@gmail.com

Welcome to the forums. I cannot be certain, but am guessing yours is a Model '94 in 30-30 caliber (30 WCF was Winchester's name as Marlin started the "30-30" designation to distinguish it from others). The gun's age is important. Winchester wasn't so good about keeping sequential serial numbers. Maybe in the '94's it is different. In my Model 70 it is a hit or miss proposition.

Thank you for our service, and similar to redryder, I am former USCG, an Ice Breaker Vet, prior to GI benefits and finishing college, now a Professional Civil Engineer, rather than LE.
If it was easy, anybody could do it.
