Hi all
I purchased model 1890 22long with loading problems can anybody help. Serial #177xx
If I load one 22 long shell in the tube it will load with no problem. If I put two or more in the tube it will load the first with no problem but not the second.
But I can load all the 22 long rifle in the tube and it will load and eject one after the other without any problems.
Do any of you have any suggestions?
Thanks

Hello Todd, thanks for being with us.

At first read, I suspected a weak or deformed spring. By loading and ejecting a full tube the spring is fully compressed and has more moment of inertia than when a few rounds are in the tube. Have you checked the spring for inertia? The spring might be weak.

It will load one with no problem. So I don't think the spring is weak. I tried it with a full tube with no change. Why does it load long rifle with one, two, three or a full tube with no problems?
Thanks for your reply.

What is the caliber designation on the barrel?

22long isnt the same as 22 long rifle. When you say doesnt load- do you mean the cartridge doesnt enter the carrier?

Thanks to all that have replied.
The barrel is clearly marked 22Long. Yes the the cartridge won't enter the carrier.
Thanks

I found the problem with help from Ron Schmitt. Somebody installed the wrong carrier in the rifle.

The one installed was for a long rifle. Ron installed one that works out of a 1906 model.

You have it all sorted out. Good job. Incorrect carrier would not have been on my SWAG list.
