Just inherited a 1959 Mod 88 in .308 and a Mod 12 16 Ga. not sure of year yet but pre '64. Trying to get a good scope and mount for the rifle and learn what I can about both guns.

Congrats ! The 88's are a great rifle, Weaver #153 pivot mounts work great. There are a couple of different height rings to choose from that will match your scope objective dia. The weaver pivot style mount allows you to mount the scope down close to the barrel, but still gives you the option of open sights when it flips to the side. I have 2 88's with these mounts, they work great and always return to zero after being flipped open and closed.
