This is Kewpie from Tokyo, Japan. As you know, here is not gun heaven
and is very restricted country for guns. But I obtained a permit to have them and
shoot clays, paper targets and hunt some.

Over a decade ago, I lived in Brooklyn, NY but I was not
interested in guns at that time.

Anyway I bought 2 Winchester guns for hunting here after I came back to Japan.
One is 1400 mkII semi-automatic shotgun, 12GA
and another is SXR semi-automatic rifle, 308win.

Both guns were brand new in box each but I was surprised because
both of them were discontinued models already when I bought!

But I enjoy shooting and hunting life with them.

Hello, I use to live in Sagami Depot which I am sure that it has been closed to military families now but it was the best five years of my life. I have family in Kyushu, I have not been back since '77. Are you to live there permanently or are you an educator?

Kewpie, welcome. There are cities and States in the USA that are more restrictive than Japan. Good to know that you have possession of a few firearms.

I think we have less pollution than in 70s and you will have more choices to see in Tokyo.

Anyway, I live here permanently and am an educator, a kind of professor, at a university here.
When I lived in Brooklyn, I was a scholar at NYU. It was great experience and the most
bright time in my life.

I know that NYC is one of very restrictive gun control area. But I think it is for concealed handguns.
Is it right? If a residence of NYC want to be a hunter, he/she can have shotguns or rifles for hunting?

In Japan, handguns are only for government officials. Shotguns and air rifles will be
licensed for shooters and hunters but it is hard to be. Because we must visit police department
to have interview and write a pile of documents about 8 times before licensing and some per year
after. To have large bore rifles, more than 10 years experience as a hunter or some certifications
as a sharp shooter is needed. I have 5 shotguns and 3 rifles.
It means thickness of paper works I have made for guns is more than Longman Dictionary.

But I can not have it in Japan because our government does not give any permission
for possession of the gun for civilian if it used once in military service even it's outdated.
