Hello and hi!

Some of you I know pretty well already. Lookin forward to meeting others!

I was recently given a field model 1300. Not certain, but when I looked up the older models, I found Defenders and Rangers, so I guess its a Ranger? I dunno. I really don't know.

I spend my time around the Mossberg site and the Winchester is completely foreign to me with the rotary bolt and all.

The 1300 has a 28" threaded barrel and a modified choke. I don't know if there's anythin to better narrow down the specific model or if that's it.

Oh, ill try and get the compulsory pics up tomorrow maybe!

Thus far here's what I like;
Action slide release is in the same location as my Mossbergs.
I like the long vent rib barrel.
Already threaded and includes a modified tube.

Don't like;
The cross bar safety like Remingtons.
Shell lifter is also like Remingtons.

Here are a couple pics! I apologize, I can't resize them on my phone.

Yeah its in pretty good shape for 30 plus years old! It may be as old as I am! :lol:

You see the years of use on the magazine tube, its nearly completely clean of any blueing. I cleaned it as soon as I got it and it def hadn't been cleaned since it was used last which, if I understand correctly, was nearly 20 years ago! The furniture isn't bad but for a couple knicks, bumps, and a few cracks beginning at the receiver. The cracks can become a big deal pretty quickly though, hence my interest in swapping the furniture out to preserve it.

I haven't fired it yet, but its gonna happen this weekend!!! :D

Thanks man! :D

I shot it and patterned it over the weekend at 25 yards with Remington Nitro 7 1/2. Real dense pattern over about 16 and thinning out from there, real happy with it, I've never had a gun with a threaded barrel and I've not ever fired anythin through a modified choke. I like it a lot!

Oh! The action is as smooth as can be and its got a real nice clean trigger!

I have an ATI Scorpion stock on there now. I began a short review on it with my initial impressions after firing about a hundred rounds.

Ill concede it looks a little weird for a 28" field gun but it feels great!

I've not ever used a pistol grip stock on a shotgun primarily due to the mechanics of my Mossys. It isn't bad on the Winchester, the grip doesn't hinder operation of the safety.

So far what I really like about the collapsable stock is bein able to pull the gun in real close, its a much longer barrel than what I'm used to and this helps to bring that weight in a few inches. With a little practice I got pretty good at the clays.

The modified choke on the long barrel is able to reach out there a little more than I'm used to, but in fairness, I m not certain there is much gained over a choked 24" barrel.
