Can I get a history lesson?

I understand that in 1964 Winchester Repeating Arms was sold. I have heard that the company that bought it, sold it again a couple years later. Can anyone tell me the name of the company that bought it in 64? In the 80"s, I bought a Mod. 94, SN 46199xx un-fired and in the original box. It remains that way to date. I'm 70 years old and my eyes aren't what they should be. I am thinking about trading it in on something I can put a scope on, and shoot, and prefer not to get blindsided on value.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Winchester was not sold to anyone in 1964. It was owned by the Olin Matheson Corp. It was sold in 1980 to a group of people who renamed it the U.S. Repeating Arms Co. Olin retained the name Winchester but leased it to U.S. Repeating Arms Co. to use on the guns they made. They were still in the same buildings in New Haven Ct. and being made by the same employees. What might have you confused is that in 1965 they started using castings for the M94 receivers instead of forgings. They also used cheaper methods on some of the other parts that they made. That is why the pre 64 guns are worth more than the post 64 guns.

The serial number you gave, places the date of manufacture for your rifle in about 1978.

Correct he said he bought it in the 80s, but he himself is 70 years old, not the gun
