Scored this at a used gun shop for $400. How did I do ?!

The model number is 2,449,6xx, which according to the record that I could find puts it at 1960 construction. It seems to be in pretty good shape, although I haven't fired it yet.

Looks like a nice shooter for the price. The screws look to be unturned. We must consider most pre 64 weapons were tools and suffered abuse and neglect. A few rubs of scratch-x car wax will condition the wood. Several silicon cloth rubs will tend the metal. Do the bore and action too.

There will be a day when we all wished we'd bought any pre64 for 400.00

You did well. Many venison dinners from now you can appreciate being in the right place at the right time.

Thanks redryder and XLIV.

Update: took the gun apart for cleaning last night to discover the inside was in very good shape. There was the expected wear on the metal where the pieces rub together, but not much more than some of the bluing worn off. The bore looks great, no pitting anywhere except one tiny little gouge in the side of the lever that pushes the new cartridge into place. I now realize I should have taken some interior pics, but I was just having a hard enough time remembering where every piece went. Going to take her out to the range today and put some rounds through her.

Thanks SHOOTER13, took her to the range and put about 100 rounds through her. She shoots like a dream.

Very nice trail companion you got there. Enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. Outstanding deal you got too.
