looking at possibly purchasing a model 42, serial number indicates 1959 model. Gun looks very nice. My question is when dry firing it or live firing it i can not pull back on the forearm until i actually push it forward first. Dont want to purchase it if something is major wrong. Is there something i can check or adjust.
Thanks in advance.
smith opinion please, model 42

Not many form postings. Answer to your concern might be slow or not at all.
My Winchester 97 pump requires pushing/pulling the slide forward then rearward. This is done to confirm bolt is full forward and properly seated. GOA Life Member

all 42's and 12's disconnect on recoil. so if you hold it lose, it wont disconnect. youll have to push slightly forward to disconnect it to cycle. its normal. go for it.
