Hello
I have always had a love for shooting and own several firearms but have just decided that it was time to purchase a Winchester lever action. So with that I said my quest for information about this iconic gun that won this west has begun.

What I know so far.

I would like a pre 1964 Winchester.
Leaning towards a 92 or 94
Would like the 30 WCF
Does not need to be museum quality but a decent gun that could be taken out every now and again.

Some things I need help with. ???

Did all receivers come in Black? Why are some gun metal or silver?
Is a gun that's been restored less desirable?
How important is numbers matching ?
What's things should I look for in purchasing a used Winchester.

From where in Central FL do you hail? I am East of you I think. In 1983 I owned and regularly shot a Win Model 94 top eject 30-30. It was my first rifle. At $195.95 (+/-) it came in a box through mail order at J. C. Penney. When opened on Christmas morning, it was so safe you could not possibly draw the lever up tight enough against the safety to allow the sear to release the hammer. It went back unfired. I purchased a used Model 94 and STILL have the very first casing that I fired out of it. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I am in Champions Gate outside of Orlando. I am continuing to search for just the right Winchester for me. I would prefer a pre 1964 92 or 94 so I will wait for the right rifle and price.
