Oh no! I keep promising that I'm not buying another gun. I hope I don't see one of these in person because if I do, I'll break my promise.

Actually rude of me in the context of your question. Not an answer, just a collateral and pesky truth. The dichotomy of "Commemoratives". Truly great investment potential... For firms purveying them! As collectibles, generally they don't appreciate anywhere near the same rate as even their workaday 'senior' counterparts; the "pre-64" genre, both collectibles or shooters.
Then of course, shoot that "commemorative" and likely likely a collateral bulls-eye on one's own foot! That as shrapnel shreds the wallet! Commemoratives too often just 'pretty faces' that don't age well! And now returning to other grumblings... Just my take |

Update: appreciate your insightful comments iskra but I had to feed my Mod 70 addiction. Bought my first used Model 70 (270, 1948 Mfg) in 1963. Bought a few more current production 70's the last couple years. But I couldnt resist the urge. I just bought my "second" Model 70 Commemorative. Wife says no more...two is enough. Beautiful rifles.

That m70 150th Commemorative is flat GORGEOUS! Collectability and whether or not it will grow in value beyond standard models matters not one iota to me. I love that black walnut lumber that has a blend of Super Grade and Featherweight design.
Someday I will be in a position to be able to afford one of these type of limited production beauties... |

I have followed commerative Model 70s. I doubt that the standard, or pre 64 models appreciate more or hold their value more than the commeratives. As to,those being to “pretty”to hunt with I do know highly figured stocked rifles that have been used hard for years. As to them being better for the companies making them, I am not even sure about that. Fact is a low priced rifle has only so much slack in the sale price. A constant though is the higher priced items are usually discounted by sometimes nearly as much as say the new Winchester XPR. Finally commeratives are invariably protected more and on a much tighter chain for inheritance, resale, etc. Those who own them often do not believe in just preserving them, but using them.
