My name is Neil and I am brand new to this site. A brief summary about who I am and what brings me to this site.
Just last year I got out of the Marine Corps honorably at the rank of Sgt after my 5 yr enlistment. My grandfather had just started suffering from diabetes very badly and was planning on moving back home to upstate NY where I am originally from. I had just sold my grandpa my extra pickup truck because his is getting very rusty from the salt they spread on the roads up there. Anyways I didn't want much for the truck and he had mentioned in conversation that he was interested in selling his Winchester rifle that he had bought brand new in 1969 and immediately I told him I would pay him $400 for it when I got home.
I will be the first one to tell anyone I absolutely love Winchester Lever Action Rifles. Grandpas is a .32 Winchester Special built in 1968 and I have all the original paperwork for it and even the tag that hung off it in the store. Although it's not a pre-1964 model it has a very valuable story to tell because that was my grandpas rifle that kept the farm safe from coyotes and put meat on the table for the family. Neil. First and foremost, from one Vet to another, thank you for your service. Welcome. Like you, I am "new" to this Board, but not to Winchester. I own one, a 270 Classic Featherweight, which has been a lifelong companion afield, and once owned a '94 lever gun in 30-30 caliber that was a sweet and easy shooter, but would not accept a top mounted scope as it wasn't angle eject. Old eyes and open sights reduce the field of view and trigger time goes to unacceptable levels. Hog eradication, don't tell the Mrs. there is no way to eradicate hogs, requires me to reach out there and touch the game. Winchester does it with satisfying regularity. Reloading the 270 is simple and easy. See you in the forums.
