I inherited a mod 42, made 1942. The stock had a piece broken out at the tang and was repaired. It is the standard field grade with a 28" mod choked plain barrel. I am considering sending it out to Simmons for one of their customization specials. I want the gun as a shooter, plus I don't think the collector value is all that high, considering the condition. I always shoot vent rib shotguns better than plain barrel ones anyway.
What is the general impression of the quality of work done by Simmons, and is there any other work I should consider getting done at the same time? Shortening the barrel to 26" and adding screw in choke tubes are some of my thoughts.
