I have been trying to get my 9422 that I bought last week set for my liking and my size to shoot. I cut down the but stock to 12" LOP. Could not get the finish to match but it works really well for me. I finally got the sling swivel correct, it does take the magnum magazine tube swivel for the 9422 heavy magazine tube. Here is a bad picture of it right now, I will get better pictures tomorrow. I the picture, the one in the middle is my 9422 but you already know that. The one on top is a 1955 Marlin 39M and the one on the bottom is a Henry Small Game Rifle. The second picture is of all my pride and joy levers. All of which are 22lr's. Sorry for the crappy pictures.

Oops!

My apology for mistaking your craftsmanship for commercial. They are indeed worthy for praise.

No problem. I was not complaining. I did build that rack out of wood taken from my daughters room. Shelving she did not want anymore. So I was debating what to do with it and this is what I came up with.

That was a good idea and a nice salute to your daughter. Those racks will be there after we are no more and passed down your lineage in her honor.

Guy's,
I thought that I was done with my 9422 but I did a couple more things.
Really happy with my 9422. I ended up stripping the finish off the stock (forearm and butt stock) and just putting a wax finish on them. Looks really good now and the feel of the warmer wood in you're hand is very nice and comfortable while handling and shooting.

I then order a Skinner Dovetail sight for the receiver and a Brass Front Sight. Finally got them on and sighted in today. For 25 yards I had to go with the .450 front sight, tried the .400 but was to short by just a hair. Now you do not want to be a squirrel or rabbit in my sights with this rifle. I can easily and consistently (not every time but almost) ring my 2" steel plate at 25 yards free hand. Love this rifle, it's a keeper and very much a great shooter.

Ok finally got some pictures of my sweetheart,
so here they are. I can shoot my 25 yard plates that go from 2" to 1' better than I can with a scope using the Skinner sights and this rifle.

Excellent modifying and shooting. I had a first production run no checkering 9422. Sold with several other firearms a couple of years past when I was thinning the herd.

I bought this one due to my internet reading. One guy rated all the 22 lever rifles on YouTube. I had the Bl-22 and the Henry so I decided I wanted to rate them myself. I bought the 1955 Marlin 39M and this 1978 Winchester 9422 XTR (yes it was expensive but well worth the money). They are really very hard to rate from best to last. But I would rate them as follows and I do mean very hard to rate.
1. Winchester 9422
2. Marlin 39M or A and the BL-22 tied for second
3. Same as above
4. Henry any of them SGR or Goldenboy last

The Henry falls short on material quality only. Steel is not as high grade and the receivers are not as high grade as the others. But they work well and shoot great.

Also had a Henry 22. Frontier I believe. Action was butter smooth. Receiver was a tad funky. Never shot it. Gave to my favorite Nephew for Christmas.
