This past season the only two shotguns I used in the uplands were a Winchester Model 12 28 gauge and a Winchester/Cooey Model 84 28 gauge. Both worked perfectly.
The 28 gauge Winchester/Cooey I will have owned for 50 years, this coming Christmas of 2017.Still bags game as well as when it and its owned were much younger.
Any one else using a 28 gauge Winchester in the field?

I can't say I have ever owned nor shot a 28 Gauge either. Post some pics of her as I'd like to see her.

Afraid I cannot post pictures. My computer skills are too poor for doing any thing like that.
Been using a 28 gauge in the uplands since 1968.Great gauge for that use in my opinion. |
I have on older single shot Remington .28 ga., all I can say is that even in a very light shotgun, its still a very easy on the shoulder compared to 12 or 20..

That Remington 28 gauge would not happen to be a Model 812 would it?
|

I 've been using a Model 42 for a number of years and prior to steel shot a 20 ga. model 12 was my primary duck and upland gun. I,ve always wanted a 12 in 28 ga. and found one at a gun show but it was counterfeit, had a browning barrel. but the 42 does the same job and is lighter.

Have a Model 42 myself.Used it for two years back in the mid 80's in the field.I found the .410 "wanting" for field use and went back to the 28 gauge.

28 gauge, I just bought another .410, this time an O/U. Since it has two barrels does that make it a .820?

Okay, my old 10 gauge double side-by-side is a 5 gauge.

Redryder, If I 'member my sums from school, 10+10 =20 not 5 LOL. though I do have a 12 ga. SxS with double triggers which has acted like a 6 ga. from time to time, set me on my rear when that happened!

Out this afternoon for a hunt with my 28 gauge Winchester Cooey Model 84.Left home about 1:30 PM and did not get back till dark.Checked out a lot of good spots, but saw nothing, except a partridge(ruffed grouse) along side the road while driving from one spot to another.

Bob, my comment lead was suppose to be Shucks not Sucks. Don't shoot!

Out yesterday for a partridge(ruffed grouse) and rabbit(snowshoe hare) hunt. Never saw one,but did see three doe deer in one place I was it.
Partridge have been scarce for quite a few years now,but there have been some rabbits around.Seems even the rabbits are scarce this year.Hopefully I will be able to find a spot which has a few in it. |
You visited with nature and returned home unharmed. A good day.

Out this afternoon for another hunt.Took the 28 gauge Winchester Model for a change of luck .No big help in that department LOL.Did see one rabbit and it was just a flash as it took off through the woods. No sign of a partridge at all.
Another skunked day.LOL You are right RR, at least I had another nice day outdoors and go a little exercise. Cold last night at -14 C ,but the temperature did get up to about -3 C today. |
