Hoping to gather info on 1957
Winchester model 12, 12ga. shotgun. I believe it's a field grade, has a 28" barrel, full choke.

Welcome Shep71! Thanks for being with us.

Forum has been slack for awhile. A few of us earlier members are waiting for an upswing in postings.

I don't own a model 12. Have 2 model 97s. One chopped for home defense and 1 standard length. I like the 12 configuration.

Wondering if trigger group is difficult to repair, are parts available, should it be rebuilt by Winchester approved gunsmith? I haven't shot it for several years. I recently cleaned everything including the trigger group and bolt assembly. Everything works OK although there is a very hard to notice click when the trigger is pulled with the safety on. It doesn't fire though. Is there an alternative to steel or is lead only recommended? I've been told Steel is not a good idea. It is a full choke, ser# 162****? I will have to upload pics when I can. Thanks for any info. Shep.

Shep71, first off steel is not good for the full choke, take it to a competent gun smith or contact Brileys the ey instal interchangeable choke tubes they may be of help. As far as the trigger group is concerned I would go to a gunsmith as you seem to have a safety problem and yes lots of parts are available. I will have to look up suppliers but an outfit named Wisners comes to mind. Good Luck and keep us informed,I want to know your progress.

Thanks, I will get this checked out. May take a while though as we're in the process of settling an estate. Any more info on parts or a quality gunsmith in Colorado would be welcome. Again Thanks. Shep.
